Introduction

This is a simple game where you need to complete puzzles in order to unlock parts of the map with the ultimate goal of escaping. I had the opportunity to work on this project as the gameplay programmer, focusing on creating puzzle mechanics that will drive the main gameplay of the game.

There are two main puzzle mechanics I created specifically for this project. One is a tile puzzle where you fix a whole image by arranging the tiles in the correct order to form a correct image. Second is a music puzzle where you arrange music to its correct order

I’m used to working a project just by myself, as forming group is difficult. However, I prefer working with a team as it allows to me fully explore making mechanics as well as adding the polish I see needed for mechanics.

Tile Puzzle

The concept of a tile puzzle is simple, but for my implementation I want it to be fully dynamic.

I designed the puzzle minigame in such a way that you can assign any image and the puzzle will then use that image for it’s puzzle pieces. Multiple sliders and options are also added so you can fine tune the look of your puzzle.

This allows for a very flexible puzzle minigame that can be reused to different parts of the game while just adjusting settings to be different enough.

Music Puzzle

Much like the tile puzzle, I also want this to be fully dynamic. But this time you can use music.

Like the tile puzzle, you can assign your own Music Snippets to use as puzzle pieces. Some of the settings from the tile puzzle are also in here to allow for fine tuning of the look of the puzzle.

The most important part of a music puzzle is also here, the system automatically visualizes the music for easier pattern recognition.
